Management Accounting Services

Monthly management accounts that show what actually happened in the business, why, and what to do about it, for small business owners across Glasgow, Lanarkshire and the UK.

What you get

Numbers Every Month, Not Once a Year

Year-end accounts tell you how the business did, roughly nine months after it is too late to change anything. Management accounts do the same job every month, while there is still time to act: profit and loss, balance sheet and cash position, laid out so you can see which parts of the business make money and which do not.

We build the pack around the questions you actually ask. That might be margin by job, by product line or by location, or simply whether this month was better than the same month last year. Then we go through it with you, so the numbers turn into decisions rather than another PDF.

Is it time?

When Do Management Accounts Start to Pay for Themselves?

  • You find out how the year went when the accountant sends the year-end figures, and by then it is history.

  • Turnover is growing but the bank balance is not, and you cannot see where the margin is going.

  • You run more than one income stream, site or type of job, and only ever see one combined profit figure.

  • Pricing, hiring and spending decisions are made on gut feel because the figures arrive too late to help.

  • A bank, investor or buyer is asking for recent monthly figures and you do not have them.

  • Your bookkeeping is up to date, but nobody is telling you what it means.

How it works

From First Call to Up and Running

  1. Step 1

    Free 30-minute call

We talk through the business, what you want to know each month, and whether monthly or quarterly reporting is the right fit.

  2. Step 2

    Clean up and set up

We review your books and chart of accounts in Xero, fix anything that would distort the figures, and agree the report layout and a fixed fee up front.

  3. Step 3

    Monthly pack

Shortly after each month end you receive profit and loss, balance sheet, cash position and the key measures we agreed, with a plain-English commentary.

  4. Step 4

    Review call

We walk through what changed, what it means and what to do next, so the pack drives decisions rather than sitting in your inbox.

Glasgow & Lanarkshire

Management Accounting for Glasgow & Lanarkshire Businesses

Most of the Glasgow businesses we speak to, from city-centre agencies and consultancies to e-commerce sellers trading nationally, have outgrown a once-a-year accountant but are nowhere near needing a full-time finance hire. Monthly management accounts are usually the first step. We are based in Uddingston, a short drive from the city and the rest of Lanarkshire, so reviews can happen face to face when that helps, or over video for everyone else.

Management Accounting in Glasgow

FAQ

Management Accounting Questions.

What is included in a set of management accounts?

At minimum a profit and loss account, a balance sheet and a cash position for the month and year to date, compared against last year or your budget. Most clients also get a short commentary and a handful of measures specific to their business, such as gross margin by income stream or debtor days.

How is this different from what my accountant does at year end?

Year-end accounts are a statutory requirement, prepared after the year has finished. Management accounts are for you, produced every month while you can still act on them. We can do both, so the year end becomes a short step from figures you have already seen.

Do I need Xero?

Cloud accounting makes monthly reporting faster and cheaper, and we are a Xero Partner, so most clients use Xero. We also work with QuickBooks. If you are on spreadsheets or desktop software, we can help you move across as part of the set-up.

How much do management accounts cost?

We agree a fixed monthly fee before we start, based on the size of the business, how clean the books are and how much reporting you need. There are no surprise bills.

Do you only work with businesses in Glasgow and Lanarkshire?

No. Everything runs through cloud accounting and video calls, so we work with businesses across the UK. Clients in Glasgow and Lanarkshire can also meet us in person.
